Nike, an iconic American brand that controls over 60 percent of the athletic footwear market. Established in 1964 under its original name Blue Ribbon Sports to sell Onitsuka Tiger sneakers, its co-founder Phil Knight decided in 1971 to begin producing shoes under its own label under the Nike name and create his own production facility under that brand.
Nike logo features a sans-serif italic typeface similar to Futura Bold Condensed Oblique, designed in 1928 exclusively for use at Bauer Type Foundry and altered over eighteen years by Typographer Paul Renner.
