Lato font was developed by Lukasz Dziedzic of Warsaw under an Open Font License agreement by his foundry tyPoland foundry and Google in spring 2010, under its Open Font License terms and made publicly available via Open Font License agreements from both parties involved. “Lato” refers to summer season in Polish. The font became freely available for public usage as part of an OFL agreement via their foundry tyPoland foundry.
