Brecksville can be defined as a condensed grotesk font which draws inspiration from early German designs from late 19th century Germany. As part of my current research on German Grotesk fonts and letters, this piece was produced as part of my dissertation entitled, “Perfected letters: German Grotesk in the Nineteenth Century,” which explores their impact in typesetting. Brecksville font family provides an assortment of weights ranging from light to bold for its more rounded display style and more rugged, sharp style. Both styles share identical horizontal and metric proportions, making it easy to combine without creating spacing issues.
Brecksville stands out with its striking sharp edges and condensed style allowing it to make an impressionful statement no matter the screen size. The black design emphasizes the necessary details of tabloid and magazine headlines while maintaining readability throughout. Furthermore, its round shape makes this display ideal for posters or any applications where an attractive yet not overly demanding design is desired.
