Benton Modern was first was created as a text face by the Font Bureau for the Boston Globe and the Detroit Free Press. Both lettering design and proportions were borrowed from Morris Fuller Benton’s turn of the century Century Expanded drawn for ATF, to recreate this ground breaking magazine/news text roman from the said period.
The italic was derived from Century Schoolbook. These display cuttings were made by Dyana Weissman and Richard Lipton; FB 2008.
