I got the idea for this project from store signs and other documents that belonged to my grandfather’s 1838 gold frame factory, which artists in its time as well as art museums in Copenhagen have appreciated. I found it enjoyable to reproduce certain characters from past, and making fonts out of them.
Arkibal Display, this is an uppercase letter of genuine character: lowercase “g” is the starting point and the zero of the font. K stands for Danish ‘K’, as in ‘Kjed’, but also as in ‘Kontur’, and ‘G’ stands for Danish ‘Guldramme’, or Goldframe, and Arkibal even if it does not really contain a ‘d’ is derived from the ‘Arkibald’.
