ABC Marfa is a sans serif font family that bounced out of the hot metal typesetting era-its high-speed roots notwithstanding, Marfa was made in an era of no time-waste, its uprights drawn in under 1000 hours and its hot-headed Italics in less than half of that time. Originally, then, Marfa is a robustly utilitarian font with three weights, called Gothic No. 6, designed by Fabian Harb in reference to early American gothic typefaces.
It first appeared in the works of pioneer examples such as Other Means, Dan Solbach, Folder Studio, Eloise Harris & Nea-Kosma, and NODE. Over the years we have had the privilege of welcoming designer Seb McLauchlan from our London satellite department who assisted us in expanding the font into a full family including the matching Italics and a Mono version.
As of now the family has extended to 28 styles and as another historical nod, Seb also included old style figures and small caps as preferred by printers and designers of the late 19th Century. And this time the Dinamo pig was intended by NYC’s best OtherMeans (thanks Gary, Ryan, and Phil).
