The original name of this font was Accidenz-Grotesk, which initially drew inspiration from the Royal Grotesk light by Ferdinand Theinhardt. Later, it was combined with Berthold to create three different weights of the present font: regular, medium, and heavyweight.
Deep and sturdy, the Akzidenz Grotesk font is perfect for professional use. Besides the original font, it also released several other versions under Berthold’s art director during the 1950s: AG Medium Italic released in 1963, AG ExtraBold in 1966, AG Italic in 1967, AG ExtraBold Condensed & Italic in 1968, and AG Super in 1968.
