Paul Barnes created Caslon Doric Font to honor nineteenth century sans-serif typography with its consistent form and rational structure, yet appealing italics from day one. It stands as testament to Paul’s craftsmanship that this font stands the test of time. Brunel was the most well-known serif font at this time; Caslon Doric is its equivalent sans font. William Caslon IV created it at the end of the nineteenth century; its popularity didn’t peak until sometime around the 1830s. Caslon first introduced the Doric style in the 1840s, gradually expanding it over time and ultimately including our familiar lowercase letters by late 1870s.
Caslon Doric has evolved over time from its initial regular weight into its present incarnation of light hairline weight to an imposing fat weight, featuring capital letters, italic letters and small letters with unique hook-like terminals that take advantage of sans serif font features while remaining distinctive for display and text use.
