Dear Dolores takes its name from the Latin term ‘dolorem,” which translates to sadness or mourning. I first tested out this font by using Latin Requiem texts; its capitals somehow fit perfectly with these massive and solemn mourning words. Broken hairlines conjured images of stones whose delicate details had become worn away with time, making it suitable for churchyards or memorial parks. By including lowercase letters as part of its design, it also added a personal and welcoming appearance as well as opening up new opportunities for uses.
