Julieta Ulanovsky was inspired to create this typeface by old signs and posters found in Buenos Aires’ Montserrat area, specifically those from its old Montserrat district. She wanted to evoke its elegant urban typography which emerged during its initial days. Due to urbanization processes altering this location over time, its signature styles will never return and forever change with each new development process that arises.
Words that inspired this project include dedication, effort, love and color – words which embody commitment, effort, love and contrast as well as light and life! Letters like these make the city beautiful. Montserrat Project began with an aim of saving what exists in Montserrat while making it available under a free license such as SIL Open Font License.
